Anna Karina Birkenstock

Anna Karina Birkenstock, born in 1975, is an author and illustrator of children’s books. After training as a media designer for picture and sound in the field of TV design, she studied media art at the State University of Design Karlsruhe. She began working as an author and illustrator in 2003. She has published numerous books with major German publishers, some of which have appeared in several languages. Her work includes board-book series for young children. Birkenstock combines digital and analogue media and has supported reading promotion through readings, workshops and voluntary activities. Her love of drawing was evident from childhood; among other things, she decorated her parents’ white faux-leather sofa with permanent marker.
