Anja Tuckermann (born 1961) grew up in Berlin-Kreuzberg. She worked as a writer and journalist and wrote novels, short stories, poetry, plays, librettos and picture books for children, young adults and adults. In several documentary-biographical novels, she explored the fate of Sinti children during the Nazi era and after the war. Her widely acclaimed works included “Denk nicht, wir bleiben hier. Die Lebensgeschichte des Sinto Hugo Höllenreiner,” which received the German Youth Literature Prize; “Mano. Der Junge, der nicht wusste, wo er war,” which received the Friedrich Gerstäcker Prize; and the play “Warten, dass das Leben beginnt,” which won the Kathrin Türks Prize in 2011.
