Andrzej Szczypiorski

Andrzej Szczypiorski (1928–2000) was a Polish writer and publicist. In 1944, he took part in the Warsaw Uprising against the German occupation and was subsequently interned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp. After the Second World War, he became active in Poland’s literary life, serving among other roles on the boards of the Polish PEN Club and the Polish Writers’ Union. In 1989, he was elected to the Polish Senate as a Solidarity candidate. His best-known works include The Beautiful Mrs Seidenman. He received the Austrian State Prize for European Literature and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
