Andrew Murray

Andrew Murray (1828–1917) was a South African theologian, minister, and author in the Dutch Reformed Church. Born in Graaff-Reinet, he studied in Scotland and the Netherlands and was ordained in 1848. He served as a minister in, among other places, Bloemfontein, Worcester, Cape Town, and Wellington. He also helped establish several educational and training institutions, including the theological seminary at Stellenbosch and the Huguenot Seminary. Murray was elected moderator of the Dutch Reformed Synod six times and received honorary doctorates from the universities of Aberdeen and the Cape of Good Hope. He published more than 240 works, including Abide in Christ (1882), With Christ in the School of Prayer (1885), and Absolute Surrender (1895).
