Andreas Venzke was born in Berlin in 1961 and studied at the Free University of Berlin. After completing his studies, he began working freelance as a writer, translator and journalist. He wrote books, articles for magazines and radio, and stories for literary magazines. He became particularly known for child-friendly biographies of historical figures, including Alexander von Humboldt, Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. His books for children and young adults received several awards.
