Andreas Mayer, born in Vienna in 1970, studied sociology, musicology and history of science in Vienna, Paris, Cambridge and Bielefeld. He worked as a research associate at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin, taught at the University of Cambridge and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, and served as a research director at France’s CNRS. Mayer has published extensively on the history of the human sciences and psychoanalysis. His books include “Mikroskopie der Psyche. Die Anfänge der Psychoanalyse im Labor der Hypnose” (2002), “Träume nach Freud” (2002, co-authored with L. Marinelli) and “Wissenschaft vom Gehen. Die Erforschung der Bewegung im 19. Jahrhundert” (2013); some of his works have been translated into several languages.
