Anaïs Nin (1903–1977) was an American writer. She was born in Paris to a Danish mother and a Spanish musician and grew up in New York. At the age of eleven, she began keeping a diary. In addition to her prose works, she became especially known for the publication of her extensive diaries, which combine autobiographical and fictional elements. Nin died in Los Angeles in 1977.
