Amena Shakir

Amena Shakir is a religious educator and Islamic theologian. She worked at the University College of Teacher Education Vienna, where she taught Islamic didactics and religious education and directed the institute for the training and continuing education of Islamic religious teachers. She also directed the Interdisciplinary Research Centre Islam and Muslims in Europe (IFIME) at Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna. Shakir participated in interfaith and intercultural projects and contributed to the development of a course on intercultural competence and mediation. She edited the textbook series “Islamstunde” and published books on the history of Islam in Austria and on religious education in secular society.
