Alison Bechdel

Alison Bechdel (*1960 in Pennsylvania) is an American cartoonist and author. After graduating from college, she moved to New York and began drawing the comic strip »Dykes to Watch Out For« in 1983; it first appeared in a feminist magazine. She gained international recognition with her autobiographical graphic novel »Fun Home« (2008), a New York Times bestseller that was translated into numerous languages. Time magazine named it Book of the Year. Bechdel has received, among other honors, the Eisner Award and the Lambda Literary Award. The Bechdel Test, a way of assessing films from a feminist perspective, is named after her.
