Alexandra Berlina was born in Moscow and studied in London. She received her doctorate in literary translation in 2012. She translates from Russian and English. Her work includes translations of Bulgakov’s novels, O. Henry’s short stories and Navalny’s courtroom speeches into German, as well as translations of Daniel Kehlmann into Russian. In 2020, her German translation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarita” was published, with an afterword focusing on the novel’s political background. In 2023, she received the City of Düsseldorf’s Literature Advancement Award.
