Alexander Sutherland Neill

Alexander Sutherland Neill was born in Scotland in 1883. He completed his studies with a Master of Arts and a Master of Education and initially worked as a teacher in state schools. In 1921, he founded the boarding school Summerhill, whose educational principle was the self-determination of its pupils. Neill directed the school until his death in 1973.
