Alex Beer

Born in Bregenz, Alex Beer studied archaeology and published historical crime novels. She became known for her series featuring August Emmerich, a Vienna police inspector; the series received, among other distinctions, the Leo Perutz Prize for Crime Fiction in 2017 and 2019, the MIMI crime readers’ award in 2020, and the Austrian Crime Prize in 2019. Her work also received the Fine Crime Award in 2021, along with further awards and shortlist nominations. With Isaak Rubinstein, she created a detective investigating in Nuremberg during the Second World War. Her Felix Blom series is set in Berlin at the end of the 19th century and follows a former crook who becomes a detective.
