Alessandro Baricco, born in Turin in 1958, is an Italian writer. He studied philosophy and musicology and earned a piano diploma at a conservatory. In addition to novels, he wrote essays, short stories, plays and screenplays, and worked as a journalist, music critic and presenter of television programs on music and literature. His novel “Silk” brought him international recognition and became a bestseller. Baricco received, among other honors, the Premio Campiello, the Premio Viareggio and the Prix Médicis Étranger. He was also involved in founding a literary school for young writers in Turin.
