Alec MacGillis worked as a reporter for The Washington Post, The Baltimore Sun, and The New Republic, and was also associated with ProPublica. He received a Polk Award for an article about the run-up to the 2016 U.S. presidential election. MacGillis grew up in Massachusetts. His research for the book Ausgeliefert extended over more than a decade and involved conversations with numerous people, including members of Seattle’s Black community and a cardboard manufacturer in Ohio.
