Albrecht Beutelspacher taught discrete mathematics and geometry at the University of Giessen and was the founding director of the Mathematikum, a hands-on mathematics museum. For his work in communicating mathematics, he received, among other honors, the Communicator Prize of the Stifterverband (2000), the German IQ Prize (2004), the Hessian Culture Prize (2008), and the Medal for Science Writing from the German Physical Society (2014). His popular mathematics books include “Das Geheimnis der zwölften Münze,” “Null, unendlich und die wilde Dreizehn,” and “Geheimsprachen und Kryptographie”.
