Agota Kristof

Agota Kristof (1935–2011) was a Hungarian writer. She left Hungary with her family in 1956 and reached French-speaking Switzerland. She initially worked in a watch factory; she later wrote in French, although the language remained foreign to her throughout her life. She became best known for the novels The Notebook, The Proof and The Third Lie, which make up The K. Trilogy. Her works were translated into more than twenty languages. Kristof received, among other distinctions, the Gottfried Keller Prize, the Austrian State Prize for Literature and Hungary’s Kossuth Prize.
