Agnethe Siquans

Agnethe Siquans, born in 1971, studied Catholic theology, religious education and Jewish studies. She received her doctorate in 2001 for a study of Theodoret of Cyrus’s Quaestiones in Deuteronomium and completed her habilitation in 2010 with a work on Old Testament female prophets in patristic reception. She became Professor of Old Testament Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Vienna. Her research addressed intertextual, feminist and gender-oriented biblical interpretation, the reception of the Old Testament by the Church Fathers, and the relationship between patristic Bible interpretation and rabbinic midrash. From 2016 to 2019, she led a project on Exodus 1–2 in patristic and rabbinic interpretation, funded by the Austrian Science Fund. Her study Die alttestamentlichen Prophetinnen in der patristischen Rezeption was published in 2011.
