Adelheid Popp, née Dwořak, was an Austrian Social Democratic politician and women’s rights advocate. She grew up in difficult social circumstances in Inzersdorf near Vienna and had to leave school at the age of ten. She worked as a domestic servant and later in home-based and factory work to help support her family. She encountered Social Democratic ideas at an early age and became active as a speaker and agitator. Popp campaigned prominently for women’s suffrage, equal pay, and reforms to marriage and labor law. She was a member of Austria’s Constituent National Assembly and served as a member of the Austrian National Council from 1920 to 1934. She also served on Vienna’s municipal council and Landtag.
