Adam Zamoyski, born in New York in 1949, grew up in England and studied history and languages at Oxford. He came from a Polish aristocratic family that fled Poland in 1939 following the German and Soviet invasions. Zamoyski wrote numerous works of historical nonfiction and biographies of Polish figures. His best-known books include “1812: Napoleon’s Fatal March on Moscow” and “1815: Napoleon’s Retreat from Moscow and the Great Transformation of Europe,” which were translated into numerous languages.
