Author · 1 book
Abdulla Qodiriy (1894–1938) was an Uzbek writer, journalist, and translator. He grew up in modest circumstances in Tashkent and initially worked for a merchant who sent him to a Russian school. From 1913 onward, he published poetry, articles, and short stories. As an editor of the satirical magazine Mushtum and through his serialized novel O'tkan Kunlar, Qodiriy helped shape Uzbek prose and is regarded as a founder of the Uzbek historical novel. He was arrested in 1937 and executed in 1938. His works were subsequently banned; after his rehabilitation, they were initially published in the Soviet Union only in censored editions.
