In "Whalefall" von Daniel Kraus ist der junge Taucher Jay auf der Suche nach den Knochen seines Vaters und droht dabei selbst zu verpuffen, bis nichts mehr übrig ist. Seine Kindheit und Jugend waren geprägt von väterlichem Druck und der Angst zu versagen, sodass er für seine Familie, aber vor allem für sich auf eine gefährliche Reise geht, geprägt von vielleicht jugendlichem Leichtsinn, aber vor allem immer mit den mahnenden Wortes des Vaters im Kopf. Das Buch ist nicht nur Unterhaltung. Es haut uns gut recherchierte Fakten rund um das Meer um die Ohren und führt uns in eine Welt voller unglaublicher Momente. Wir folgen Jay unter die Meeresoberfläche, lernen das Meer, seine Flora und Fauna zu respektieren und finden im Auge größter Gefahr zu uns selbst.
