Reviewed by NikeI enjoyed this book: In my opinion, it did a good job of showing how prone insecure teenagers are to a leader. “It’s amazing how much more they like you when you make decisions for them” If you give people, who are still searching for their identity, a book of rules they will happily accept. But it oversimplified the factors that led to the behavior of Germans in the 3. Reich. Because intellectual, confident and reflective people were also Nazis. For example, in the book it says: “All I can tell you is that the Nazis were highly organized and feared. The behavior of the rest of the German population is a mystery - why they didn’t try to stop it, how they could say they didn’t know” It makes it seem like the Nazis were just a minority and the majority shut up for some mysterious reason although it was against their beliefs. It disregards that a lot of people took part in the discrimination because of their own ideology, that was caused by propaganda. Although these students would not have become Nazis, the book warns of blindly following somebody. It’s an important message!
