Der Junge wächst als einziges Kind in einer abgelegenen Försterei bei den Großeltern auf. Felix Salten, eigentlich Siegmund Salzmann, wurde 1869 als Sohn eines jüdischen Ingenieurs in Budapest geboren. 1890 kam er in Kontakt mit der Gruppe Jung-Wien um Arthur Schnitzler, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Hermann Bahr und Karl Kraus. 1923 veröffentlichte er »Bambi. Eine Lebensgeschichte aus dem Walde« und wurde weltberühmt. Später wurde die Geschichte von Walt Disney verfilmt. 1927 übernahm Salten die Präsidentschaft des österreichischen P.E.N.-Clubs. Er arbeitete bis zu seinem Tod als Schriftsteller und Journalist. Felix Salten starb 1945 in Zürich. Maja Dusíková wurde in Piestany in der Slowakei geboren. Sie studierte Kunst in Bratislava und schloss 1973 ihr Studium als Grafikerin und Buchilllustratorin ab. Seitdem nimmt Maja Dusíková erfolgreich an Ausstellungen in aller Welt teil und hat über 40 (Kinder-)Bücher illustriert. Seit 1982 lebt sie mit ihrer Familie in Florenz. Für NordSüd illustriert sie seit vielen Jahren in ihrem unverwechselbar schönen Stil, zum Beispiel die Bücher »Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht« oder »Sankt Martin und der kleine Bär«.
