The story is about an evil king who falls in love with a young woman who originally stole from him. The book is well written and the world-building is excellent, with many Viking elements influencing the story. The description of the many clans and subspecies in the world was excellent. The FMC Sunnëva was unstoppable. She was a Shield maiden and knew everything there was to know about the battle. I also liked that she wasn't portrayed as being overly sexualised and was presented as being more average than she was made out to be. She had a tragic history and many scars, but she never gave up. We need more FMC who are not constantly described as "perfect" and "sexy". I am always disappointed when people judge FMC solely on their looks and bodies. Thankfully, this was not the case in this book. You will undoubtedly identify with Sunnëva and her feelings. Let me be clear: what is there to say about the king of the dead? His appearance is different, but he reminds me strongly of Hades. This is another story about a man who knows what he wants and is willing to kill for the woman he loves. Overall a good book!
