Rezension von simply_y####### SPOILER START ####### Yes, Nightmare might have been a true monster–but he did all this scheming for the sole purpose of giving Elspeth a better future. A future full of love and no mist–and therefor no Nightmare. I have to admit, the end was lacking massively for me. There wasn't enough on-page time with Ravyn and Elspeth and how they managed. All in all, I simply inhaled it and I loved it. I cried for the loss of Nightmare, although he's hands down the craziest nutjob. The bond he and Elspeth shared wasn't always healthy and parts of it were straight up fucked up, but oh my, when I understood what his goal was... I just couldn't hate him... ####### SPOILER END ####### Totally going to reread this duoligy, since I thought about it for a long time after first finishing it.
Rezension von MariaEin gelungener und herzzerreißender Abschluss der Reihe. 🌳✨ Während der erste Band für mich von seiner Atmosphäre gelebt hat, wurde die Geschichte im zweiten Band deutlich epischer. Zwar habe ich die Verbindung einiger Charaktere aus dem ersten Teil etwas vermisst, dennoch war es ein emotionales Finale mit Figuren, die mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen sind. Eine wunderschöne Reihe über ein Mädchen und ihr Monster. 🖤

It greatly benefits from the different povs that Rachel Gillig gives us, which allows for a very nuanced view on all the characters. They get more depth, more tragedy (I did cry a bit at some parts) and altogether makes the story more well rounded. Rachel Gillig does not shy away from violence and explicit scenes, more so than in the first book so be warned. It’s not excessive though and definitely well placed. Overall a very good, unique story. If you’ve read Hannah Whitten’s Wilderwood duology and liked it this is definitely for you - and vice versa.

The more power it gives you, the weaker you become.“ Ravyn und seine Truppe versuchen weiterhin das Kartendeck zu vervollständigen. Um Blunder zu erlösen, den Nebel zu vertreiben und Emory zu retten. Um Elspeth zu retten. Sie bekommen ausgerechnet von jemandem Hilfe, von dem sie es nicht erwartet hätten. Ein toller zweiter Teil der fast an Teil 1 heran kommt. Wir erfahren mehr über die Karten und Blunders Vergangenheit. Zwei Charaktere rücken mehr in den Vordergrund, was ich persönlich super fand. Ich fand die beiden schon während des ersten Teils sehr interessant. Die Geschichte wird aus der Perspektive von verschiedenen Charakteren weiter erzählt, was dem ganzen nochmal mehr Spannung verleiht. Die Plotttwists waren fast alle nicht vorhersehbar, zumindest für mich. Mit vielem hätte ich nicht gerechnet. Das Ende hat sich für mich allerdings ein bisschen gezogen. Trotzdem ist die Sheperd King Dilogie ein Jahreshighlight für mich und zählt nun auch zu meinen Lieblingsbüchern. Absolute Empfehlung!!
