This has been such a wonderful and thrilling tale. It's been a while since I have read a fantasy novel. Theodora's soul has been split in half by a fae when she was a child. Therefore she reacts and feels quite different than the rest of society. "She had little effort to spare for making unpleasant men more comfortable." While trying to become whole again and avoiding her marriage minded aunt, Theodora becomes part of something bigger and also finds out that she can indeed feel emotions. Her journey is about finding out who she is even though a great part of her is missing. Despite her inability to feel deep emotions (at least she thinks so) she does find love. Theodora shows us that despite being different we can still love deeply with all we have to give - even with just half a soul.
