Reviewed by Hamide Kahraman Fate Breaker is the epic conclusion to 'The Realm Breaker' trilogy. After the battle confronting Taristan, the Companions are forced to retreat. Losing one another in the turmoil, they end up on different paths. Some are on the run, others endure torture in cold dungeons, and others try to secure help. They are on their own for the first time since embarking on the quest. A daunting prospect since the way forward contains more trials than they care to admit. Witnessing each Companion face off against numerous horrors, I kept wondering whether the Companions would get their heartwarming reunion before the end of the world. Suffice it to say that I was overjoyed when that moment finally arrived. 'The Realm Breaker' trilogy is partly inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings', a fact that Victoria Aveyard mentions in her acknowledgements. These elements were interwoven expertly into the tale, rendering her inspiration rather subtle than crude. Especially the last battle reminded me of the epic battles in Middle Earth. Victoria Aveyard knows how to build up suspense. This third instalment is truly a deserving end to an amazing tale. The quest, the characters, the dangers and most importantly, the themes come together masterfully, leaving the reader in awe of the story. What I cannot understand is why this trilogy has not been picked up for a movie or TV adaptation yet. I do hope that one day we will get to see Allward and the Companions on the big screen.
