Reviewed by Carlos R. DiazLarry Brown was a southern writer, and this novel was his gem in a treasure trove of excellent Southern writing. The novel tells the tale of two Vietnam War vets who share the same hospital room twenty years after that protracted conflict inflicted them with horrible scars, both emotionally and physically. The novel is told in alternating POVs by the two protagonists. There are many themes here, such as friendship, hardship, compassion, and PTSD. It is a devastating, fine piece of war literature. That is all.
