Reviewed by FraukeDiese kurzweilige Erzählung Melvilles lädt zu zahlreichen Deutungsversuchen ein und wirkt durch und durch kafkaesk, obgleich Kafkas eigene Schaffenszeit damals natürlich noch in der Zukunft lag. Als Leser fühlt man sich stets versucht, das Phänomen Bartleby besser verstehen zu wollen, als es der Ich-Erzähler ermöglicht. Wenn einem lediglich Moby Dick bekannt ist, wird man von Melvilles Stil hier umso mehr überrascht sein, der sich doch so gänzlich anders darstellt.
