I really really loved this book, couldn't put it down and finished it in almost one sitting with a little sleep in between. I'm so glad I had Prince's Gambit at home already too because I needed to keep going right after I closed Captive Prince!! The only critics I have is that the thematic slaves and also rape is a big part of this book, I didn't mind that at all but some people might get triggered by that so maybe at the beginning of the book there should be a trigger warning about that! Other than that I really enjoyed it, not just the story but also the writing. It's the first real enemies to lovers I've had in a long while and I would recommend this book to everyone!

I had high hopes for this book, but sadly I was disappointed. I had seen some great fanart and TikToks about The Captive Prince, which convinced me to read it. At the beginning it was interesting, but after just two chapters it started to get kind of weird. Rape was being normalized and treated as something attractive or as a form of entertainment for the characters. I hoped it would get better, and it did a little bit, to be honest. But not enough to make me want to start the second book right away. Maybe I will in a few weeks, but for now it’s going to stay on my TBR. It’s a twisted story with a plot twist that came unexpectedly. The dynamic between Laurent and Damen could be better in my opinion; or rather, more in focus.
