To be completely honest, I bought this book years ago purely because I fell in love with the cover….so in this case, I really did judge a book by its cover. It honestly frustrates me that it took me so long to finally pick it up and read it. I absolutely loved Hazel and Jack’s story. I’m usually not that drawn to books set in the 19th century, but this one just felt different. Hazel is such a compelling and likeable protagonist, and Jack is just as great. There are definitely a few characters I’d gladly punch in the face, mostly because the misogyny and sexism of that time period are so infuriating. I couldn’t put the book down and immediately ordered the second one in the series because I NEED to know what happens next. Do you ever buy books just because of their cover?
