Reviewed by Vanessa Ich habe gemischte Gefühle zu dem Buch. Ich finde das Worldbuilding und das Magiesystem wirklich gut und kreativ. Mir gefällt die Amora als FMC wirklich gut und ich mag es sehr, dass bei ihr die Dinge nicht wie von Zauberhand gut laufen und sie ein gesundes Rachebedürfnis hat. Aber ich glaube ich bin nickt der Typ für Piraten und Meereswelten. Jeder der sowas mag findet hier aber auf jeden Fall ein gutes Buch! Ich werde den zweiten Teil auf jeden Fall lesen, weil ich wissen will wie alles endet☺️
Reviewed by Hamide Kahraman All the Stars and Teeth is the first book in the eponymous duology. Admittedly, it is quite a peculiar title, confronting the reader with mysteries that are only unravelled bit by bit throughout the tale. I am a big fan of well-conceived and inconspicuous titles, which is one of the reasons why I picked up this book, and I was not let down. The reader journeys to the kingdom of Visidia, which is made up of seven islands, each with their unique type of magic. We reach the island of Arida, the capital of the kingdom, on the night of the ceremony, during which Amora Montara, the princess of Visidia, has to demonstrate her control of soul magic and thus become the next High Animancer. When she gets distracted during the ceremony, her grip on her magic slips, and she loses control, causing everyone to turn against her. Seeing no alternative but to flee her home with the charming and witty pirate Bastian and her fiancée Ferrick, she embarks on an adventure to confront the danger the kingdom is facing and, by doing so, to prove once and for all that she, Amora, is the rightful next High Animancer. They are joined by Vataea, a stunning and powerful mermaid, who agrees to help them on their quest. Together they brave many dangerous incidents, and with each passing day, their bond solidifies. The crew, as they call themselves, felt like homecoming and made me yearn to join their ranks. Initially, I had some difficulties navigating the magical system Adalyn Grace set up. Especially when in the first few pages the various types of magic, their associated gemstones and islands were portrayed, I had to constantly jump between the page and the map depicting the kingdom. After a while, it got easier, and the magic did not feel foreign any longer. The characters are fun and complement each other perfectly. Initially, I did not like Amora; she was naive, full of herself, constantly referring to herself as Visidia’s only hope and was at the same time self-conscious as she yearned for the unconditional love of her people. It is this self-consciousness that gets her into trouble in the first place. As the journey progressed, Amora showed tremendous growth and evolved into a true leader. Bastian, the captivating and sharp-witted pirate, was by far my favourite character. The tale never gets dull, albeit sometimes things advanced way too smoothly for my taste to be believable. But hey, sometimes things do work out as intended, so maybe Amora and her friends had luck constantly on their side. Overall, this has been a fun read: magic, pirates, mermaids, and a thrilling adventure - loved it!
