Dickens' novel was a warning to England's upper class not to underestimate the revolutionary potential of the lower class. Using the French Revolution as an example, Dickens showed how an anti-human class system inevitably leads to its own downfall. Under the impression of the revolutions in Europe and the rise of the communist idea, Dickens put his finger on the wound. For Dickens' contemporaries, the warning was painful. For today's readers, the novel is above all an atmospherically dense, and exciting historical drama - with a happy ending that compensates for the nerve-wracking reading. A most read it captures the spirit of London and Paris during that time. First 2 sections were a little slow bot the last one was very exciting.
An intriguing beginning gives way to several difficult chapters to get through. They are all important and well worth the effort. The end is unspeakably beautiful, and we are treated to portions of insight and truth on the way there. Read it and then listen to it on audiobook. Like every Dickens book it is even more valuable each time you read it.
