Alfred Russel Wallace (1823–1913) war ein britischer Naturforscher und gilt als einer der Begründer der Biogeografie. Während seines Aufenthalts im Malaiischen Archipel erkannte er die biogeografische Grenze zwischen Borneo und Celebes, die später als Wallace-Linie bezeichnet wurde. Unabhängig von Charles Darwin entwickelte er Ideen zur Evolutionstheorie. In seinen späteren Jahren beschäftigte er sich zudem mit sozialen Fragen.
