This book is a lot less toxic than I thought it would be. The one big issue I have, is that it still considers ‘being fat’ to being immediately bad. The other mentions numerous times that weighing oneself frequently is not beneficial because a healthy weight is reliant on too many individual factors. This is obviously true and the book focuses a lot on what we now call ‘intuitive’ eating but it’s still a bit too fat shamey for me. Tbf it was published in 2005 but still. I learned a lot about Frenchman culture and a lot about food and wine, so much that I often forgot that that this is a lifestyle book. I really expected it to be a lot worse. It’s also very ‘women in the kitchen’ and she is a bit snarky. I didn’t hate this but didn’t actually think it helped her point in any way. I’ve also seen a lot of people pick at her lack of knowledge around the fact that a vegetarian diet can also be healthy, I actually don’t eat meat unless I have to and found the book very easily adaptable.
