Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's-the very place where they're most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi-the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires-make Lissa one of them forever. Man hat bei dem Buch sehr gemerkt, das es die Welt der Reihe aufbaut, weshalb es ab und an etwas unspannend war. Doch ich sehe Potenzial für den Rest der Reihe.

Also … wer ein gutes Buch erwartet, sollte vielleicht etwas anderes lesen.

Got the series from a friend. Because I was so over with all of those Vampire-Stories it took my a while to start reading. I didn't like it much at the beginning. Rose was way too cocky for me, her friend - Lissa - too whiny. But with the story unfolding I was more and more hooked by it. I really had my problems with the fascination for Dimitri. To be blunt: I thought he is boring (I kinda still think so), he is so dedicated to what he does, so full of moral... Anyways I loved the friendship between Rose and Lissa. While reading this book, I started to get to know them better, to understand them better and even to like them a little bit. But despite everything: I'm all over Christian :3 Nice book, very easy to read, took not too long. Loved Rose' snarky comments and her temper!
