4.25 ★⋆ There's probably a more detailed version coming, but let me share my opinion: Honestly, this book wasn't what I expected. Even though I can't really tell what my expectations were. Maybe in Another Life caught me off guard. Taylor Jenkins Reid tells the story of Hannah Martin, a young woman, who has spent her last years wandering through different cities, with a college degree, working in countless meaningless jobs. When she returns to L.A., she makes one supposedly small decision, that can change everything. TJR describes Hannah's life in two parallel story lines, in each one, Hannah has chosen differently. From that moment on, both versions drift apart as the importance of a small seeming decision gets clearer and clearer. And it's so beautifully written. This being one of the earlier ones of TJR's books, her style is already recognizable, but not that sharp as it gets in her later novels, just as The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo or Daisy Jones. And I loved it. Honestly, I don't know what's left to say... I loved it. I constantly wanted to hug Hannah and Gabby (I looved her btw) and tell them everything's gonna be okay. Still - it felt more like a 4.25. I'll definitely reread it at some point in time. <i>Quotes:</i> «We make choices, big and small, every day of our lives, and those choices have consequences.» «I found my home. And it's not New York or Seattle or London or even Los Angeles. It's Gabby.» «If there are an infinite number of universes, I don't know how I got so lucky as to end up in this one. Maybe there are other lives for me out there, but I can't imagine being as happy in any of them as I am right now, today. I have to think that while I may exist in other universes, none is as good as this.» «If you love someone, if you think you could make them happy for the rest of your life together, then nothing should stop you. You should be prepared to take them as they are and deal with the consequences. Relationships aren't neat and clean. They're ugly and messy, and they make almost no sense except to the two people in them. That's what I think. I think if you truly love someone, you accept the circumstances; you don't hide behind them.» <spoiler>"It's just that I ruined things with the only man I think I've ever really loved. I'm pregnant with a baby I didn't plan for, as a result of sleeping with a married man, who won't even be in the child's life. I'm fatter than I've ever been. And my dog is still peeing inside the house. And yet, somehow, I feel like my life here is so good I couldn't possibly leave it. For the first time in my life, I have someone I fell like I can't live without." "Is it me?" Gabby says suspiciously. "Because, if it's not, this is a weird story." "Yeah dude," I say to her. "It's you." "Awww, thanks, bro!"</spoiler>

I enjoyed the read. It felt relatable (to a certain degree) and the format was also intriguing. First Reid's novel, late to the game but still had fun :)
