Rezension von Lucy SkyJohn Green was my all time favorite author when I was a teenager, he is still one of my favorites and I HAVE to read whatever he publishes. When I was researching banned books - Looking for Alaska - came right up. It has currentlly 200 bans across the USA. In case you didn't know: "Since July 2021, PEN America has tracked 22,810 book bans across 45 states." Most bans affect classrooms and school libraries and are due to themes like LGBTQAI*, suicide, sexual content, substance use,... Looking for Alaska follows Miles, a teenager obsessed with famous last words, who leaves his boring life behind for a boarding school. There he makes some friends, like Alaska. She is unpredictable, beautiful, and enigmatic. The book "doesn’t glamorize self-destruction or risky behavior: It portrays them with brutal honesty and emotional weight. It opens up essential conversations about grief, mental health, love, and guilt." Who would have thought that a man wrote the first feminist character/book - while I don't remember that part, I love the idea of 15 y.o. me reading about this perspective.
