Rezension von Milena HärichHohe Schreibkunst! Ich habe das Buch im Original, also auf Englisch, gelesen. Hanya Yanagihara schafft es, selbst die außergewöhnlichsten Gefühle, die uns allen inhärent sind, die aber niemand so richtig benennen kann, in Worte zu packen. Sie hat mich als Leserin mit Jude, dem Protagonisten, und anderen Figuren so sehr mitfühlen lassen, wie ich es selten beim Lesen tue. Anfangs bin ich etwas schwer reingekommen, da auch nicht viel Spannung aufgebaut wurde. Genau das macht aber eigentlich dieses Buch aus: Es geht nicht um krasse Plottwists oder die steilste Spannungskurve, es geht darum, wie Jude und Willems Charaktere sich entwickeln - allein und zueinander - und wie Jude mit seinem komplexen Trauma umgeht. Später wird das Buch etwas „schneller“, es passiert mehr und es gibt mehr Zeitsprünge. Allerdings geht es dann auch mehr um Jude und um Willem und kaum um JB und Malcolm, die auch zu der Clique gehören. Als Leserin würde man zwar gerne noch mehr über die beiden erfahren, das würde den Umfang des Buches aber sprengen und vielleicht auch zu sehr von Jude ablenken. Eine Triggerwarnung zu Beginn des Buchs wäre hilfreich, da etliche potentiell triggernde Themen behandelt werden - ich würde es daher nicht jeder Person empfehlen zu lesen, sondern nur denen, die sich stabil genug fühlen. Unter anderem geht es um sexualisierte Gewalt, körperliche und emotionale Gewalt, Drogensucht, Suizid, selbstverletzendes Verhalten, Koabhängigkeit und und und.

Rezension von JoKlare 5/5 ⭐️ Mitreißend ohne Ende und bis zur letzten Seite fesselnd. Jeder, der Trauma in seinem Leben erfahren musste, kann auf jeder Seite mitfühlen und nachempfinden. Wer dieses Buch lesen möchte, sollte sich unbedingt über das Thema bewusst sein und wie sehr es einen mitnehmen kann. Reflektieren über das eigene Leben ist vorprogrammiert!

Gut wrenching and an emotional roller coaster, making you wish you never started it in the first place. But at the same time SO well and in depth written, I wasn’t ready for it to be over.
Rezension von LauraThis book is unlike any other! It is devastating, heartbreaking, and heavy. It made me cry, made me sit there sobbing, for this poor character, but it also made me smile at times. A Little Life is a masterpiece and definitely a story I will never, never forget. It should come with a trigger warning of some sort!!!
