Von Anfang an komplett vorhersehbar. Null tension zwischen FMC und MMC. Die Charaktere sind mir egal. Ich werde die Reihe nicht weiterlesen.

4,5 ⭐️ I wish to protect those I love. I wish to be in a place where I can protect those who cannot protect themselves and help those who cannot help themselves. I wish to be in a position where I can free those who find themselves locked in cages they do not want to be in. - Scarlett The reader is encountered with the three Wraiths of Death in a sinister setting, that intrigued me from the very beginning. The deeper one sinks into this world of humans, Fae, Vampyres, Assassins, healers etc. the more you get to know the protagonists. Scarlett is a natural force with a stubborn but strong mind and will, driven by the wish to protect her loved ones. I absolutely love her because despite everything she remains strong and still fights with an unyielding attitude. Just like Ryker/Sorin, this mistyrious and secretive General, that feels drawn to Scarlett and suddenly she finds himself as one of her biggest protectors. Cassius and Nuri as her chosen family are brilliant, too. Everything that these three experience together seems so well balanced – the good, the consoling, the traumatic parts. I was more than once moved by their relationship. I absolutely love the writing style of MKR. The sinister setting of the book and of a dark place where a person can’t get out of, is so masterfully written and described. I think all of us has once experienced an episode of dark and depressing moments and I think everyone can relate to certain descriptions of Scarlett’s darkness. I absolutely enjoyed reading about it no matter how hard and partially traumatizing Scarlett’s experiences were. So the trigger warning in the beginning is more than necessary and appropriate. There are some things that I didn’t feel to be authentic in the development of (small) events but otherwise I couldn’t put the book away. Because sometimes we just need someone to sit with us in the darkness in the middle of the mess. – Sorin Lady of Darkness of Melissa K. Roehrich, the first book of the series, entertained me very much thanks to the world, the protagonists but above all, thanks to the exceptional writing skills of the author. Despite some small critics that I didn’t find authentic, I love this book! It shows that writing is art – and, in my opinion, this is a very valuable masterpiece. Thank you for this, MKR! I’m looking forward to the sequels and recommend it to everyone who likes romantic dark fantasy with a sinister setting.

this book feels like the love child of several other well known series. But I adore all of those, therefore I had the time of my live with this book. Does it feel like the romance plot from fbaa got blatantly copied, with a sprinkle of TOG and Acotar thrown in? Yes. (In all fairness, this could be only accidental. But some parallels feel pretty obvious and this series released after the others, so maybe the author got a bit of unintentional inspiration?). It still stands it’s own tho, with many aspects making the book it’s own unique story! And I ate this book up. Devoured it in a few hours. What can I say, I’m a sucker for stabby badass FMC and for MMCs, who can’t resist those woman. Their banter made me giggle and their continuous hate but can’t resist each other was so well written. Every development felt build up and natural. That’s what i want when I say romantasy. AND HE CALLS HER LOVE AKA MY KRYPTONITE. The side characters are great too and the unique dynamics between them were beautiful to read about. And the story is exciting and intriguing, the writing is super captivating. It was equally painful and emotional as it was action-loaded or fun banter and dialogues. And the storytelling and pacing was exactly the way I needed it to be, to not feel rushed. but still developing at an exciting tempo to keep you hooked. Can’t wait to start the next book now and see where things will go with series. I’m definitely madly in love with the MMC. Though i hope we get some less repetitive miscommunication/keeping secrets, causing the „I hate you“ to heat up again for the hundredth time, in the next book! If you loved From Blood and Ash and Throne of Glass, give this a go! You’ll enjoy it. Or if your just in the mood for some romantasy. I think a perfect book to pull you out of a reading slump too! 4.5
