Ich habe dem Buch eine Chance gegeben und nach ein paar Jahren zum zweiten Mal gelesen und es konnte mich leider wirklich nicht überzeugen, sowohl beim ersten als auch beim zweiten Mal nicht. Mir gefällt einfach die Geschichte nicht. Ich frage mich die ganze Zeit, was hat das mit Wonder Woman zu tun? Was hat eine Kriegsbringerin mit Wonder Woman zu tun? und dabei liebe ich Wonder Woman aber der Roman hat mir nicht zugesagt. Ab und zu gibt es lustige und gute Konversation aber das war's auch schon. Jedoch muss ich sagen Nim hat mein Herz, sie ist ein sympathischer Charakter.

Diana ist die Tochter der Erde, geboren aus Lehm und zum Leben erweckt durch den Wunsch ihrer Mutter, lebt sie unter den Amazonen auf Thymiscira, ohne jedoch selbst kampferprobt zu sein. Bei einem Wettlauf will sie ihr Talent und ihre Fähigkeit unter Beweis stellen, um endlich mehr Anerkennung zu erhalten. Doch statt sich auf das Rennen zu konzentrieren sieht sie mit an wie außerhalb von Thymiscira ein Schiffsunglück passiert, und obwohl sie die Regeln kennt greift sie ein, mit schweren Folgen. Gleich vorweg, ich bin ein riesiger Fan von Comics, egal ob DC oder Marvel, ich schaue alles an und lese so viel wie ich bekommen kann. Umso aufgeregter und gespannter war ich, als ich auf dem dtv-Bloggertreffen auf der FBM erfahren habe, dass "Wonder Woman" auf deutsch übersetzt wird und wir hier auch in den Genuss der gesamten Reihe kommen. Aber nun zum eigentlichen Inhalt des Buches. Diana entscheidet sich, ganz die Heldin, dafür die einzige Überlebende des Schiffsunglücks zu retten und gegen die Regeln auf die versteckte Insel Thymiscira mitzunehmen. Schnell wird ihr klar, dass Alia, so heißt das Mädchen, alles durcheinander bringt, die Insel bebt und Amazonen werden trotz ihrer Unsterblichkeit krank. Sie befragt das Orakel und erfährt so von Alias Schicksal, dass ihr durch ihre Blutlinie auferlegt wurde. Und schon steckt Diana in der Klemme, soll sie die Insel retten oder Alia? Im Buch wechseln mit den Kapitel auch immer die Erzählperspektive, so haben wir als Leser die Möglichkeit sowohl Dianas, als auch Alias Sicht, Gedanken und Gefühle zu erleben. Während Dianas Kapitel voll von Ehrfurcht, Kampfgeist und Ernst waren, hatten Alias Kapitel teilweise wirklich lustige Parts, was vor allem daher rührt, dass sie es amüsant findet wie Diana auf ihre Welt reagiert. Das Zusammenspiel der beiden war wirklich interessant zu beobachten, auch wenn ich ein paar Minuten gebraucht habe um mit Alia warm zu werden. Neben Diana und Alia, die ich als Protagonisten sehe, gibt es noch ganz interessante und abwechslungsreiche Nebencharakter: Theo, Nim und Jason. Jeder ist auf seine Art speziell, bringt daher nochmal Spannung in das Geschehen. Und ich gestehe, vor allem Nim hatte es mir besonders angetan, sie war einfach klasse in ihrem Auftreten. Um das Schicksal aufzuhalten nehmen die fünf eine wirklich gefährliche Reise auf sich, und ich schwöre, mit dem Plottwist am Ende hätte ich so nicht gerechnet. Insgesamt konnte mich Leigh Bardugo total überzeugen mit ihrer Geschichte rund um Diana und die Amazonen, und ich muss gestehen, ich wünschte mir es gäbe eine Fortsetzung. Fazit: "Wonder Woman" von Leigh Bardugo ist der Auftakt der DC-Icons-Series, die komplett bei dtv erscheinen wird. Mit einer guten Mischung aus Spannung, griechischer Mythologie, Action und Gefühl schafft es die Autorin mich durchweg zu unterhalten. "Wonder Woman" ist dabei nicht nur etwas für Comicfans, sondern für jeden Fan von spannungsgeladenen Geschichten geeignet.

"Diana had made her choice with that first leap from a high cliff, with that first plunge into the sea." I wondered whilst reading whether Diana would ever be allowed to return home, just as much as how the reaction of her war sisters and her mother would be. The last 100-120 pages I realized that these questions were insignificant. For the development of the story became more and more unpredictable. In the beginning, it was easy to plunge into Diana’s world in Themyscira and the role she has to play as princess. I liked diving into the peaceful and idyllic island and the life of the Amazons. In the beginning the protagonist seems young, i.e. without much experience in combat and with a thirst to prove herself. Thus I liked her development during her adventure in the human world where she learns to keep a promise at all costs and to take responsibility over her actions. And in the end she becomes the very warrior that is known as Wonder Woman. I loved pursuing this progression of hers and got stuck in the lecture more and more with every chapter. Alia, the Warbringer, is a very intriguing personality because she’s a fighter from the very beginning when she gets to know who she is. The progress in her character is also very admirable since she finds herself in the middle of a catastrophe and learns quickly to adjust - as much as this is possible in a short span of time. Her friends, Nim and Theo, which are very refreshing and entertaining support her on her quest to get rid of her fate. Well, at first, that is, but here I will say no more - I'm still shocked about the outcome. The antagonist is someone who I couldn’t immediately sort out but who - on the retrospective - wasn’t someone to be trusted all along. A very cool twist and unexpected move from the author that I liked very much. Furthermore, the writing skills of the author are visible from the first page on: The descriptions of the beauty of Themyscira, the calming noises of the shore and many more things are so skillfully pictured. I often had the feeling I could see it right before me - I just loved that! "Now Diana understood what this war would really mean, and the terrible truth of the vow she'd made settled over her." Wonder Woman. Warbringer of Leigh Bardugo is a very entertaining adventure of the Amazon Warrior who’s going on her very first intriguing and instructive quest. I love the person she becomes toward the end as much as her fighting soldier-friends. I enjoyed this book very much and recommend it to all Wonder Woman - fans as much as fantasy- fans who like the entanglement of greek myths. That's a new favourite which moves into my shelf! Kurzrezension (Deutsch) Mir hat diese abenteuerliche und spannende Geschichte über Dianas erste richtige Aufgabe richtig gut gefallen, da ich die Entwicklung der Protagonistin sowie ihrer Mitkämpferin Alia unglaublich spannend und beeindruckend finde. Alias Freunde Nim und Theo sind erfrischende Charaktere, die zwischendurch für den einen oder anderen Lachmoment gesorgt haben, was die Lektüre umso unterhaltsamer gestaltete. Der Antagonist hingegen war für mich nicht von Anfang an erkennbar, daher kam ich erst einmal nicht aus dem Staunen heraus, als ich erkannte, wer er war und welches Ziel jener verfolgt. Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist fantastisch, denn viele Beschreibungen über Themyscira sowie die Rückblicke, in die der Leser gelegentlich entführt wird, wurden wirklich meisterhaft geschrieben. Dies ist mein erstes Buch von Leigh Bardugo und ich muss sagen: Die Frau hat es wirklich drauf! Ich bewerte das Buch daher mit der Kategorie Tauchliebe, da ich nicht nur ein neuen Lieblingsbookie entdeckt habe, sondern weil die Geschichte bei mir noch lange nachhallen wird. Also: Ganz klare Leseempfehlung und zwar vom Feinsten!

Let them hear me wail at the top of my lungs.” </i></b></blockquote>Wonder Woman is one of my favorite DC characters, and after the movie, I was excited to read this, especially since Leigh Bardugo would be the one writing it. It didn't disappoint in what I was expecting, but it wasn't without its faults. I love Leigh's portrayal of Diana, how she feels more human and real to the reader instead of a full-on goddess without a flaw. We see her feeling of inadequacy compared to the other Amazons, how she feels like she has something to prove and can act a bit reckless and insecure because of it. Her discovery of the real world is funny and I like how she keeps messing slangs up and doesn't understand much of sarcasm. She doesn't have a big evolution during the novel, but you see her becoming more confident and brave - how caring and compassionate she is, and how her experiences living with humans changes her. I LOVE her friendship with Alia, the care and respect they develop for each other, and along with Nim, they make a badass trio! I enjoyed the plot, the twist on Helen of Troy and the world wars, and I liked the Percy Jackson vibes I got from the entire mission. But honestly, one of the few let downs I had while reading was the big plot twist - it was completely predictable from the start and I was always waiting for the shoe to drop. I wasn't convinced by the villain - not by how his character was developed and even less by his motives. The character was annoying from the moment we meet him and I knew there was something going on there. The 'evil' gods as antagonists were way more interesting and 'scary' than the 'main' one. I have to say, though, the final showdown kept me hooked throughout and it had a more than satisfying conclusion. It was a good adventure and I wouldn't say no to Bardugo writing another Wonder Woman story in the future.
