Memoirs of a Jew born in 1922 in Berlin, an only child. Her mother died of illness in 1938. In summer 1940 she was assigned to forced labor at the Siemens factory. After her father's death in 1941, she left her work and went into hiding. In fall 1942 she spent a month in Bulgaria under a false identity, but was denounced and ordered to return to Berlin. There she spent the winter and following year hiding under very difficult circumstances, frequently changing hiding places. She was helped by a Jewish physician married to a non-Jew, and by non-Jewish individuals, inter alia circus artists. In 1943 Jalowicz Simon worked briefly for the German resistance and lived for a while in Magdeburg. The last two years of the war, which she also spent hiding in Berlin, passed more easily. She subrented a room with a Dutch man from a Nazi-sympathizing German woman who, although sometimes threatening to denounce her, mostly treated her well. After the war Jalowicz Simon remained in Berlin.
