I think it’s a nice little addition to the cruel prince. You learn more about what Taryn went through, but in the end I didn’t manage to feel bad for her. Taryn was awful to Jude and I do understand her reasoning now better. But it doesn’t add that much to the story. It feels more like a special chapter.

This just pissed me off. Literally made me so angry wtf- The extreme lack of self-awareness was astounding, the reasoning to validate every single step instead of ACTUALLY apologizing AND MEANING IT. This was actual stupidity. Bro was behaving brainless over a Bum tf- “We don’t love the way you do” FIRST FLAG BRO RUUUUNNNN WTF R U DOING AND THE AMOUNT OF JEALOUSY- this is so fucked up. How can someone think like that AND BEHAVE LIKE THAT towards their own sister. Pissed me off the 45mins I spend reading this. This genuinely annoyed me so bad rn icl. Would’ve rated this one star but it wasn’t bad I just can’t stand her. Anyway Cardan summed her up perfectly: “‘You’re awful.’ He said it as though he was delighted. “And the worst part is that you believe otherwise.’” Ate her up left no crumbs. I need her killed in the next few books istg I cannot stand her any longer

Secondly, was this novella really necessary? No, not really. And yet I devoured it because Holly Black's writing style is truly gorgeous and I loved getting a little insight into Taryn's mind. However, I still don't like her and Locke. In fact, I dislike them even more now. The last drop of sympathy I had left for Taryn is gone. And I really hope Locke falls off a cliff. But maybe that was exactly the aim of this novella? Who knows.
