Rezension von Svenja SchulerDie ersten 100 Seiten waren etwas holprig. Es passiert nicht wirklich wahnsinnig viel. Dennoch ist da eine gewisse Spannung, die von Anfang an in der Luft liegt. Wenn man dann dran bleibt und mal richtig in der Geschichte drin ist, kann man sich nur noch schwer losreißen. Geheimnisse, Plottwists, Spannung. Das ganze Paket wird einem geboten. Eine Sache fehlt mir persönlich: Das Buch wurde 2022 erstmals veröffentlich, gilt also als relativ neu. Daher würde ich da mittlerweile schon eine Trigger-Warnung erwarten. Das Buch beinhaltet ziemlich ausführliche Darstellung von psychischer und physischer häuslichen Gewalt. Ich kann mir vorstellen, dass das nicht für jede*n Leser*in geeignet ist und daher wäre zumindest eine kleine Randnotiz irgendwie innerhalb des Buches sinnvoll. Abgesehen davon ist das Buch wirklich eine große Empfehlung, besonders für Fans von Thriller, Spannung und Nervenkitzel.

What starts off as a simple job for Millie — a live-in housemaid for a seemingly perfect, wealthy family — quickly turns into something far more unsettling. The Winchester household is full of secrets, and nothing is as picture-perfect as it looks. The real strength of this book lies in its twisted power dynamics and manipulation. Every character feels layered, with hidden motives that keep you guessing. Millie, especially, is compelling — flawed, determined, and constantly walking the line between truth and danger. It’s tense, addictive, and filled with that quiet, creeping unease that keeps you flipping pages.
Rezension von LeoIch hab es geliebt! Obwohl ich sagen muss, ich lese wirklich nicht oft Thriller etc. weils mir einfach nicht so gefällt, aber der war richtig gut! Leider habe ich den Fehler begangen, mir zu viel selbst zu spoilern, vor allem durch Filmrezis oder Social Media, ich denke, wenn man diesen Fehler nicht macht, hittet der Plottwist richtig! Trotzdem hat es mir echt gut gefallen, nur passiert eigentlich bis ca. 60 Prozent vom Buch nicht so viel, aber der Schreibstil von Freida ist wirklich sehr gut. Kann die Originalversion auf Englisch sehr empfehlen!
