Rezension von Matthis GfrererIf I had to describe "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald in one sentence it would be this: "A morbid american mix between "Pride and Prejudice" and "Romeo and Juliet" set in the roaring 1920s, we follow the young man Nick Carraway through a part of his life, trying to find his place in a society divided by culture and money." I think my favourite part about this book was, that Nick is never working, even though he appears to be quite poor. We know that he sells bonds in New York, but I think there is only one incident where he actually goes to work. As for the characters, I feel like each of them are supposed to represent a societal subgroup. In general, the book is full of metaphors und hidden messages, criticizing Americas "High Society". Listening to it, I sometimes felt like I was one of Gatsbys guests on one of his elaborate partys. 3,5 Stars for me.
