Not only could the Great Libraries go up in flames, but the world along with them.As her alliance with Nathaniel grows stronger, Elisabeth starts to question everything she’s been taught—about sorcerers, about the libraries she loves, even about herself. For Elisabeth has a power she has never guessed, and a future she could never have imagined.

After finishing this book I could not decide on how to rate it. On the one hand, there are quite a few details I didn’t like, but at the same time I found myself surrounded by new and intriguing characters. This is difficult for me, yet I‘m gonna try to put all my thoughts in this short review. Firstly, I am not entirely happy with the main characters. While I love Silas and like Nathaniel, I don’t know what to make of Elisabeth. She has such a gentle name and at first she also appears that way - gentle and naive. This changes FAST. One day she just sits at her table and reads and the next day she is perfect with a sword and cuts down several enemies. Mhhhh... I like her better that way, but this quick change out of nowhere doesn’t seem logical. By far the best character is Silas - a demon. How I love those dark and pretty creatures. Or not so dark at all? He is one of the most interesting characters I‘ve had the pleasure to „meet“ in a while. Nathanial could talk more. When he does, he is cunning, funny and charming all at once. Unfortunately, most of his time he spends brooding. Grimoires play a very big role in this story. They are books that can talk and have magic and feelings. As an enthusiastic booknerd, how can I not love that fact? Apart from that, most of the storyline is rather unimpressive. It’s not boring but also doesn’t leave you with the want to know more. However, the end was dramatic, a little sad and overall perfect.

This was such an imaginative, original story! I really really enjoyed it. Especially all the characters, who were so unique. I listened to on audible and kind of regretted my choice, because this is a book to be read as hardcover for all it's glory.
