A poignant story of one college student's romantic coming-of-age, Norwegian Wood takes us to that distant place of a young man's first, hopeless, and heroic love."

Beautifully written with some obvious exceptions of the vulgar parts.

norwegian wood screams nostalgia to me in every way. there was a passage in which I related to Watanabe so hard, it physically pained me what he experienced. no media ever did that

Okay, wow. This book...A lot to dissect. I do not really know what to feel about this book. To be honest, Toru seems very annoying. Someone said in their review that he is just some pretentious shithead and I will not disagree with that. He is so absorbed with his own life and his own well-being that he does not realize anything that happens around him aka his friends. Yeah. Great friend. Also he kind of always has some girl he keeps on the back burner and just does as he pleases. The way he is praised by the three female main characters is just unreal. Like, were you not just mad at him, Midori, for not talking to you and being a bad friend? Then why are you acting so adoring towards him? Another thing that irked me: WTH is up with all this sex? Like there is no way this man is so good, that Naoko and Reiko don't want to have sex with another person in their whole life. Not unrealistic at all. Adding to the sex topic: How come, that during all the sex scenes, he was the only one whose needs were satisfied? That doesn't sit right with me. Just as much as the way he describes Naoko's body as this beautiful body which is the only amazing thing about Naoko. Quote, page 361:"Her beautiful body has vanished from this world!" Don't really like the objectification. Thx a lot, but I'll pass. And what is with the amount of alcohol he is drinking? Like dude, stop. You're acting weird. Addiction is no fun. I don't think this book is a great book and I actually am a bit dissapointed about how it tured out to be. Nevertheless, it gave me some new input and things to think about. SO: If anyone wants to read about suicide and sex, this is something to read about. Otherwise: I'm not sure about the greatness of this book.
