Rezension von LinneJust as in the second book, the beginning felt quite slow, but it was a great build-up towards all the big plots and events at the end. I couldn’t really warm up to Gale. Maybe it’s because I like Peeta so much, but also because Gale always felt much more calculated and less openly loving towards Katniss. Because of that, he was a bit too present in the first half of the book for my liking. Finally, „The Hanging Tree“ was introduced! I had been waiting for that song throughout the whole series because I didn’t know when it would appear, and I absolutely love it. Another thing I really liked was getting to know Finnick better. His backstory gave him so much more depth, and I felt much closer to him because of it. That’s why I was shocked that his death felt so sudden and almost unimportant when it happened. At the same time, it made sense given the situation and the fact that the rest of the team had no choice but to keep moving. Katniss being such an unreliable narrator really speaks to me. For example, her ever-changing feelings about Haymitch constantly made me rethink his character. I also loved how confused Katniss was after the Capitol had been overthrown. It was very well portrayed and I was just as confused as she was. Prim’s death felt so surreal when it happened, and I thought it was very realistic that the full weight of the grief didn’t hit Katniss until much later. I also realised that Peeta and Katniss never really fought for the same cause at the same time throughout the three books. One was almost always trying to kill, protect or save the other without the other knowing. There was always some secret, some hidden plan, and they never truly knew what the other was thinking or intending. I really loved that they ended up together in the end, and the epilogue gave me the closure I was hoping for.
