⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ EMOTIONAL DAMAGE BUT MAKE IT 5 STARS I am writing this from the floor because that ending genuinely took my legs out from under me. Five stars somehow still doesn’t feel like enough for the absolute insanity Rebecca Yarros pulled off here. If Book 1 was an obsession, Iron Flame is a full-blown illness. The world got bigger, the stakes got worse, and the writing never gives you a second to recover. You can feel the exhaustion, the anxiety, and the constant pressure of surviving a revolution every single time you turn the page. This book grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. Xaden and Violet… My heart is tired. Yes, the communication issues had me screaming because PLEASE JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER, but the intensity of their devotion??? Insane. The shadow daddy energy was dialed all the way up and Xaden once again proved why he owns this genre. Watching them fight for each other while the world around them was actively falling apart had me hooked from beginning to end. The side characters remain everything. The squad loyalty? Unmatched. And watching Andarna slowly turn into a sassy teenage dragon with attitude problems was genuinely one of the best parts of this entire book. These characters feel like real people now, which unfortunately made every loss hurt ten times worse. But THAT CLIFFHANGER. My jaw dropped. It is still on the floor. Those final pages left me staring at my wall in complete silence because WHAT DO YOU EVEN DO AFTER THAT??? Shadow daddy is in massive trouble and I genuinely do not know how I’m supposed to function. UPDATE: Went back and combed through the book again because I physically could not stop thinking about it and WOW. The clues were everywhere. The foreshadowing was everywhere. Everything was literally right there in front of us and somehow we all just ignored it??? Rebecca Yarros is playing chess while the rest of us are eating the pieces. I am completely powerless to this series.
Did i finish this book, or did it finish me?
