Reviewed by Monica I was invested in the story throughout even though I really didn't like any of the characters. They all had some twisted motivations and dark things they are hiding. At one point or another I suspected pretty much everyone, so the ultimate revelation definitely came as a surprise to me. One minor quibble I had were the names, why oh why name characters with nearly the same names? Caro, Coop, Courtney, and even a Charlie has a role. But in a group of eight people who hang out, to have three of them with such similar names is just insane…. The pacing is quick, but still gives the reader plenty of insights into the insecurities of the characters and how those same insecurities still haunt them, as their carefully hidden secrets, are brutally exposed one by one. The novel has some surprising revelations, and one stunning final admission that I didn't see coming. The reunion from hell ends up having some positive effects, though, and the story ends on a high note. Overall, I plowed through this one pretty quickly and even though most the characters are unlikable, I was still curious to know the ultimate outcome and enjoyed this twisted college reunion.
Reviewed by Fereshte<b>1.5 stars!</b> off to a very good start, i see. 😭😭😭 unfortunately, even the mention of Orpheus and Eurydice couldn't save this book for me. jokes aside, this book lacked the element to make you care for any of the characters. not the protagonist, not the victim, not "the villain" not the friend group, no one. you don't see any character growth. there's this two timelines: one ten years ago and the other now. and you can't see any difference in the characters throughout these years. in the now chapters it still feels like they're in their early twenties. the so called "plot twist" i saw it coming pretty early on. generally, nothing even remotely interesting or intriguing happens throughout the story. this is just a typical, mediocre "one friend is murdered one of them is responsible for it" kinda story. when i first read the premise, i immediately thought of "if we were villains" by M. L. Rio and since that book is one of my favorite books of all time i thought it would be fun to get the same vibes again, but boy this was so not it.
